Hotel Alegria offers timeless charm in the heart of Lisbon.
Quite suitably, ‘Alegria’ translates to ‘happiness’ in Portuguese and that is exactly what I felt during my entire stay. Upon stepping foot into Hotel Alegria, you can expect nothing less than exceptional hospitality. The boutique hotel is centrally located in the heart of Lisbon and convenient to all the major attractions. Despite being in the middle of the Portuguese capital, the hotel rooms were quiet and offered the perfect base after a long day of exploring.

How To Get There
If you’re arriving from the Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) it is approximately 15 minutes away by car. Uber is extremely affordable in Portugal and my ride from the airport cost around €8 euros. Alternatively, public transit is a cheaper option. For less than €2 euros you can get there but it requires multiple transfers and would take roughly 45 minutes.
The Property
Located on the outskirts of the central Rossio District, near the popular and lively Barrio Alto and Principle Real neighborhoods. It is close to trams and a short 5-minute walk to the Rossio station so you can easily explore other parts of Lisbon.
The Room
The rooms were spacious and filled with tons of natural light. I stayed in their ‘Mansard’ room which had two balconies overlooking the street on the backside of the building. Minimalist yet modern, the rooms have a comfy bed, smart TV, and a small desk. There is also a small fridge, coffee machine, and Smeg water kettle to make coffee or tea in your room.
The WIFI was extremely reliable and had no issues with virtual meetings or streaming. I was on the top floor and although there was a street below it was an extremely quiet corner with minimal noise pollution.
Amenities
The hotel faces Praça da Alegria which is a quaint park with a small playground and fountain. There’s also their Quiosque (Kiosk) where you can enjoy a daily menu of light food and drinks and live music every Friday and Saturday. It’s a great spot to enjoy Lisbon’s pleasant climate year-round.
A light breakfast is included with your stay, featuring fresh pastries and refreshments. You can choose to enjoy them from inside the charming breakfast room or outside. I personally enjoyed their mini pastel de natas and chia pudding cups.
Activities
There is much to be explored right outside the property. Some great places within a walkable distance include:
- Avenida Liberdade
- Barrio Alto
- Principe Real
- Embaixada
- Rossio Square
- Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara
- Casa de Alentejo
- Elevador da Gloria
